Waterproofing & Damp proofing |
|
Waterproofing
The most popular roofing system in the Middle-east is the IRMA or the inverted membrane roofing assembly where the insulation board is placed over the waterproofing membranes, protecting it from the extreme thermal variations. IRMA Inverted roofing system keeps the membrane and roof structure warm, eliminating the risk of surface and interstitial condensation. In Conventional roofing system the Insulation is placed under the roofing membrane assembly. Waterproofing may be performed by the following methods/materials:
Damp Proofing is the treatment of a surface or structure to resist the passage of water in the absence of hydrostatic pressure. Damp-proofing is essentially employed to prevent moisture from wicking through the structure
Pond Lining, Basements, Swimming Pools, Reservoirs, Bathrooms, Fountains, Planter Boxes, Under Passes are some of the areas where damp-proofing system is essentially installed. Double layer bituminous membranes reinforced with minimum 200 gsm are used along with bitumen impregnated fiber boards and or nonwoven geotextile membranes as protection layers to create a complete tanking system for Basements, Swimming pools, Water tanks, Underpasses, Tunnel linings and other sub-structures. Also Elastomeric membranes – EPDM, Hypalon, PVC and Self Adhesive bituminous membranes are also commonly used for damp-proofing works. Geomembrane LiningThe growing concern over the contamination of valuable water resources and fluid migration to sub surface soils and ground water has resulted in the increased awareness of demand for geomembranes. Environmental protection agencies stipulate the use of geomembranes to protect the environment from both solid and liquid containment systems. Geomembranes are impermeable synthetic membranes used with any geotechnical engineering related material so as to control the fluid migration in a man-made structure or system. Geo Membrane Lining At Reservoir Geomembranes are continuous polymeric sheets that are relatively impermeable and flexible. The most commonly used geomembranes are HDPE, PCV, EPDM, etc.
HDPE - High density polyethylene is widely used membrane for lining of solid waste sites, other fluid containment applications like reservoirs, ponds, tanks, irrigation canals, landfills and aquaculture industry. HDPE membranes are known for their low permeability and exceptional chemical resistant and UV resistance properties. |
